Overview
In May, 2014, Dr. Joseph Alesnik, M.D., F.A.C.S., became the newest member of Riverview Cardiac Surgery.
Dr. Alesnik, a longtime resident of Tampa, graduated from Tampa Catholic High School and the University of South Florida. In 1996, he completed his M.S. in Biotechnology at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore.
Dr. Alesnik returned to Tampa and earned his M.D. from the University of South Florida College of Medicine in 2000. His post-graduate training was successfully completed through the general surgery residency program of Dr. Hiram Polk at the University of Louisville School of Medicine.
In 2005, he began his formal cardiothoracic surgery residency in Houston, at the Baylor College of Medicine Michael E. Debakey Department of Surgery.

Dr. Alesnik’s thoracic training, which included aortic surgery under Dr. Joseph Coselli, thoracic surgical oncology at the MD Anderson Cancer Center, and adult cardiothoracic surgery at the Texas Heart Institute, was completed in 2007.
Dr. Alesnik has practiced as a staff surgeon in hospitals across Florida, including West Palm Beach, Ocala, Lakeland, and Tampa, since 2007, and he holds multiple medical licenses.
As Director of JPA Operations, Inc., he was affiliated with HealthPoint at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tampa, and the Watson Clinic.
Dr. Alesnik was recently awarded the commission of Major in U.S. Army Reserve.
Dr. Alesnik’s professional scope of interest includes on- and off-pump bypass surgery, surgical valve and Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR), thoracic trauma, aortic and peripheral vascular surgery.
