William Martinez, MD

Dr. Martinez graduated from Jefferson Medical College in 1986 with a Doctorate of Medicine degree where he graduated with Honors placing in the top 10% of his medical class.  He then went on to attend NYU for his General Surgery Residency from 1986-1991.  He was appointed Chief Resident at NYU in 1990. He then completed his Fellowship in Cardiothoracic Surgery at NYU from 1991-1993.    He was trained under the world-famous Frank C. Spencer MD.

Following his Fellowship, he began his practice in Connecticut where he has performed over 6,000 open heart procedures and practiced for over 25 years.  He has been a proctor to many other surgeons who have traveled from throughout the United States to learn off pump coronary artery bypass surgery and minimally invasive valve surgery from him.  He has always been on the cutting edge with new procedures including robotic surgery, mid cab surgery, arrythmia surgery as well as complex aortic surgery.  He co-developed and expanded the TAVR program at his hospital.  He has extensive background and experience in re-operative cardiac surgery as well as multiple arterial revascularization.  He was appointed to serve on the Cardiovascular Improvement Committee and Hospital Peer Review Committee.  He was also an American Association of Physicians Leadership member.  He independently developed a monthly education program for the nursing and mid-level staff which was integral in the growth of the Cardiovascular Program.  He coordinated multidisciplinary rounds for all post-operative patients to improve patient satisfaction and outcomes at his hospital.

Dr. Martinez has given many lectures at Medical Conferences throughout the United States on Minimally Invasive Surgery, Off Pump Surgery as well as the treatment of functional mitral valve regurgitation.  He has been awarded The Best Doctors in America title for multiple years, first selected in 2011.  He was also elected to Leading Physicians of the World in 2015-2018 and featured in The Waiting Room Magazine Physicians.
