An Infusaport is a small device which is utilized to deliver medications directly into the patient’s bloodstream.¬†For patients who are undergoing chemotherapy, an infusaport insertion procedure may be part of their treatment.

During this short procedure, a small catheter attached to a reservoir is placed under the skin with the soft catheter placed inside one of the chest veins. This allows the administration of medications or withdrawal of blood for testing without repeatedly having to stick the arm veins. This procedure is done in the operating room, under sedation or a brief general anesthetic.

As this is an outpatient procedure, you will be able to return home the same day. However, since the procedure uses mild sedation, you will not be able to drive yourself for the remainder of the day.
